For shipping container seals, high security seals in accordance with ISO17712 are required.
The Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) program is one layer in the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) multi-layered cargo enforcement strategy. Through this program, CBP works with the trade community to strengthen international supply chains and improve U.S. border security. To enhance communication with partners, C-TPAT regularly highlights matters of interest to members; this C-TPAT bulletin is for the new ISO 17712:2013 security seal standard that will take effect on May 15, 2014.
C-TPAT’s security standards state that “…high security seals must be affixed to all loading containers destined for the United States. All seals must meet or exceed the current ISO 17712 high security seal standard.”
